BEAMQR HOW A FILE IS HANDLED Copyright BeamQR, August 2025 onwards 1. You choose a file. Several files zip into one, and a small preview picture is made, both on your own machine before anything is sent. 2. A quick browser check runs when you press the button. It keeps automated tools out so the service stays available to people. 3. A seven character share code is picked at random. The odds of a normal person guessing somebody else's short link are around 1 in 21.8 billion. 4. The file is stored under a separate random name with no relation to the code, so holding a link tells you nothing about where anything sits. 5. You get the link and a QR code to share however you like. 6. Downloads are always served as a plain attachment with a fixed content type, so the site hands the file over and never opens or runs it. Anything that happens after that happens on your own machine, which is why an unexpected file deserves the same care as any other download. 7. People download it. Each download is counted, and if you set a download limit the file goes as soon as that limit is reached. 8. The file is deleted by whichever comes first, the expiry you chose, the download limit, or somebody pressing delete on the download page. The delete button is open to you and to anybody you sent the link to, and it needs no account and no reason. Removal is deliberately put in the hands of the people holding the link. It is immediate, it needs nobody's permission, and it protects everyone involved. 9. The link dies with the file, everywhere at once. 10. The stored copy is destroyed shortly afterwards and the record goes with it. LIMITS One internet connection can upload sixty files or two gigabytes in a rolling hour, and going over costs the rest of that hour and nothing longer. Many people share one connection, so the ceiling is set for a busy room and the pause is kept short. WHAT IS NOT KEPT The address an upload came from is turned into a one way hash before anything is written down. Ordinary use sets no cookies, and there is no analytics, no tracking and no profile of anybody.
